People talk about findom as though it were one activity. It is not. It is a family of arrangements that happen to share a currency, and the differences between them matter enormously — to what it feels like, to who it suits, and to how badly it can go wrong.
I have worked in this for years and I have seen men arrive convinced they wanted one thing and discover within a month that they wanted something almost unrelated. So here are the main types of findom, described plainly, with the parts nobody advertises.
1. Tribute findom
The most common and the most straightforward. He sends money on a schedule or on request, and the sending itself is the act. There is no purchase, no exchange, no invoice. He is not buying attention; he is expressing where he sits.
This is the entry point for most people and the one I would recommend anyone start with, because it is measurable and easy to stop. If you want the mechanics, I have written about what a tribute actually means and how to send one.
2. Paypig arrangements
A paypig is a submissive whose role is defined primarily by paying. The term sounds derisive and often is, deliberately — the degradation is frequently part of what he is after. The dynamic tends to be ongoing rather than occasional, and the amounts tend to be larger.
The failure mode here is that “paypig” gets used as a label for anyone who has ever sent anything, which flattens a real distinction. More on what a paypig actually is, including why men become one.
3. Cash slavery
Further along the same road. A cash slave hands over a defined portion of his income, often with real oversight — budgets seen, spending approved, accounts discussed. The control is administrative as much as erotic.
This is where the ethical weight increases sharply, because it stops being discretionary spending and starts being someone’s actual financial life. Anyone doing this properly builds in limits. I have written about what cash slavery involves in practice.
4. Contract findom
Written terms. Amounts, frequency, duration, consequences, and the conditions under which it ends. Some people find the formality itself compelling; others use it purely as a safety measure.
These are not legally binding and should never pretend to be. Their value is that both people have written down what they agreed while calm. See findom debt contracts for how they are actually structured.
5. Drain and blackout findom
The intense end. Sessions built around sending repeatedly in a short window, often while worked up, sometimes until an account is empty. It is the version that gets written about because it is the most dramatic.
It is also the version that causes the most damage, and I will say plainly that most of the harm attributed to findom as a whole comes from this specific practice done without limits. If you do this, it needs a hard ceiling agreed beforehand and honoured by both people.
6. Gift and wishlist findom
He buys items rather than sending money. It suits men who want the transaction to feel like provision rather than surrender, and it suits women who would rather receive something specific than a number.
Milder in feel, and often the version that survives longest inside actual relationships, because it looks from the outside like ordinary generosity.
7. Bill and lifestyle funding
Rent, a phone contract, a car payment, a holiday. The submissive takes on a real recurring cost. The appeal is that it is genuinely useful, and that its usefulness is unmistakable every month.
It also creates the most entanglement of any type on this list. Ending it has consequences beyond the dynamic, which is worth thinking about at the start rather than the end.
8. Financial teasing without transfer
Rarely discussed and more common than people admit. The dynamic is built on the anticipation and the threat of paying rather than on money actually changing hands. Some men want the feeling and not the transaction, and there is nothing lesser about that.
How to tell which type you want
Three questions, and answer them honestly rather than aspirationally.
- Do you want it to hurt financially, or to feel significant? Those are different, and conflating them is how people end up in trouble. Significance can be achieved at a level you can afford.
- Do you want structure or intensity? Contract and tribute arrangements are structural. Drain sessions are intensity. Most people who think they want the second actually sustain the first.
- Would you still want this on a dull Tuesday? If the appeal evaporates outside of arousal, build in a delay before any large amount. That single rule prevents most regret.
What all of them require
Whatever type you land on, the same four things separate the arrangements that last from the ones that end badly.
- A ceiling that exists before it is needed.
- A domme who will enforce that ceiling against him, including when he pushes.
- An exit that neither person treats as a betrayal.
- Money that was genuinely spare. Not money that was going to be spare. Spare.
The dommes worth serving are the ones who turn men away. If someone in this field has never told you no, you are not being dominated, you are being farmed. I have written up the red flags I look for, and they apply in both directions.
The vocabulary
If half the terms above were new, the findom glossary covers the language properly. If findom itself is new, start with what findom is, then come back and pick a type. And if you want the psychology rather than the taxonomy, why men crave financial domination is the honest version.
Common questions about the different types
Can you combine them?
Almost everyone does. A typical long arrangement might be a monthly tribute with a wishlist attached and a contract sitting behind both. The types are a vocabulary for describing what is happening, not boxes you have to stay inside.
Which type is safest for a beginner?
Fixed tribute, at an amount that would not change your month if it vanished. It has a natural ceiling, it is easy to stop, and it teaches you what the dynamic actually feels like before anything is at stake.
Which type do dommes prefer?
The honest answer, from me and from every domme I know who has been doing this more than a year or two: the reliable one. A modest tribute that arrives every month for three years is worth more than a spectacular drain session followed by silence and a man who now resents you. Consistency is the whole business.
Is any of this a scam?
The activity is not. Plenty of the people advertising it are. The distinction is whether there was ever an agreement in the first place — findom involves a dynamic that both people entered knowingly, and anyone who skipped that part and went straight for your card is simply stealing with a theme.
Does the type change what it costs?
Less than you would think. Every type on this list can be run at fifty pounds a month or five thousand, and the amount says nothing about how serious the dynamic is. What changes with type is the shape of the control, not the size of it.
The short version
Tribute is the foundation. Paypig and cash slave are degrees of the same thing. Contracts add formality. Drain adds intensity and risk. Gifts and bills make it concrete. Financial teasing removes the transaction entirely.
Pick the one that matches what you actually want rather than the one that sounds most impressive, set a ceiling before you start, and find someone who will hold you to it. That is the entire craft.
